“We’re a family-run restaurant. When people come here, we want them to feel cared for, like they’re part of the family,” says Lenny, an Albanian from Montenegro who grew up helping his family run their restaurant. Hospitality suited Lenny well, and he soon learned that his gift was working the “front of the house,” greeting guests and making them feel welcome.
In 1994, Lenny immigrated to the United States, and shortly after that, he opened Il Castello, a beloved upscale Italian restaurant and steakhouse in Mamaroneck. Il Castello drew a strong following of loyal customers before closing in the summer of 2021 after suffering extensive damage from Hurricane Ida. These days, Balidemaj focuses most of his attention on working the “front of the house” at Lenny’s Seafood & Steakhouse.
When it comes to ambiance, Lenny’s Seafood & Steakhouse exudes timeless charm built on old-world traditions that are felt as much as they are seen. Guests dine on white tablecloths in the glow of two fireplaces in formal dining rooms accented with marble and dark wood wainscoting. Two bars offer a wide selection of fine wines and spirits. The restaurant also has a private dining room for special events, private parking, and valet parking on weekends.
Lenny’s North, which he opened with his brothers-in-law, Tony and Leo, embraces the same charm and impeccable service as the original Lenny’s, plus a full bar, two dining rooms, a front patio, a large heated tent, and ample parking. Tony and Leo manage the guest experience while Lenny overlooks the restaurant.
Both restaurants serve dry-aged prime beef, fresh-from-the-ocean seafood, handmade pastas, and classic Italian recipes influenced by Lenny’s mother in Italy. Specialties include the perfectly charred porterhouse for two, the long-bone tomahawk ribeye, the whole roasted branzino (prepared tableside!), and the impressive seafood tower.
But what brings diners back time and time again is the simple grace that’s not seen in most restaurants — a genuine desire to give every guest a memorable experience.“We provide impeccable and friendly service to ensure that every guest who walks through the door will be served with careful attention so that their dining experience will be memorable,” Lenny says.
Both restaurants are open nightly for dinner and offer a daily lunch menu. They also offer private dining experiences and personalized menus. Together, they have amassed hundreds of five-star reviews on Google and TripAdvisor and have been reviewed by the New York Times and Zagat. “Check out the reviews online, and you’ll see how highly patrons rank us,” Lenny says proudly. “Better still, come in and taste for yourself just how special we are.”
